Reflections. Rebirth
18"24"46cm61cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedI painted this symbolical painting as I reflected on the terrible war which started back in February 2022 - seemingly endless. The three abstract trees we focus on, in the foreground, form part of a forest (light blue/turquoise). My trees are reflected in water - the river of Ukraine - symbolising all the gruesome happenings washed away and - this is my hope - being replaced by rebirth and a richly deserved brighter future. Painted on canvas board. Colours, predominantly the national colours of Ukraine, hues of blue and yellow.
Moon Vision
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedI painted this painting as a memory of a vision years ago: In the middle of the forest, on a moonlit evening, I came across one of those deep, mysterious lakes I remember so vividly from my childhood in my old country, Denmark. Surrounded by high trees it suddenly appeared right in front of me, and in the semidarkness I had a flash-vision of the full moon strongly reflected in the silent, deep blue water indeed, if you look closely, you might see what I think I saw, the dark shadow of a beautiful forest goddess (Artemis?) emerging from the depth of the water ... was it a fantasy, or? Please come back, this country of beauty. As always in this series I have used blues and yellow, the national colours of Ukraine, painted on canvas board in acrylics.
Fruit Trees in Bloom
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedMy inspiration. Another vision of beauty which happened to me was during a trip in the twilight by a lively river. I turned a corner and there in front of me unfolded this unexpected scenery of a small group of fruit trees in bloom, the white of the flowers almost glittering in the semi-darkness - I often walk at an hour when the moon and the stars are coming out and the silence takes over. May this beautiful country soon return. Painted on canvas board in all blue and yellow hues, the national colours of Ukraine.
Hearts of Passion
18"24"46cm61cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedThis work is abstract and symbolical - even naive: An enormous sunflower - the national flower of Ukraine - surrounded by a sea of hearts. It says it all about the courageous people and their fight for freedom for their beautiful country. One day…! As ever, painted In the national colours, blue and yellow.
Fields of Peace. Hand of God
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedThis work is largely symbolical. I mean to show how everything destructive has been transformed into, replaced by, a wonderful scene of golden fields filled with peace - by the magic hand of God..I have expressed this in Ukraine's national colours, powerful shades of blue, the yellow showing the beginning of golden fields stretching as far as - forever..painted on canvas board using acrylic colours.
Magical Ukrainian Sunrise
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedAs always I am longing for and hoping that one day soon Ukraine will be free again - that my painting here of a magical sunrise will really come true and then show all the peace, beauty, and sheer magic of the Ukrainian nature, like in days gone by. I hope my work will inspire and encourage everybody who views it to feel the same way. My colours and shades are predominantly based on blue and yellow - the national colours of Ukraine - on canvas board, and I have used acrylic colours.
Return of Angels
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedOver this beautiful Carpathian forest with its tall, straight trees - like columns in a cathedral - the angels are returning to a land which is once again peaceful, so full of natural beauty - there is a hush sweeping through the tall trees, and the enormous rising sun is magical and orangy red. I have used blue and orangy colours to truly emphasise the almost godly serenity of this scene. As ever, I am basically making use of the national colours of Ukraine, blue and yellow.
Survived
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedImagine! I painted this painting imagining the rebirth of beautiful Ukraine, and, observe closely, the small nuclear family is watching how the magical revival of their country is taking place all around them, the enormous sun symbolising a new dawn in a once again peaceful and free country, so full of hope for the future..I have used acrylic colours in blue and yellow, the national colours of Ukraine, on canvas board.
The Sun Rose Red
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedI painted this most optimistic sunrise straight from the heart, to symbolise eternal hope and the rebirth of the real Ukraine, so beautiful and free..: my usual use of yellow has here been almost replaced by orange changing into a flaming orangy red - for passion! And of course blue - the national colours of Ukraine in acrylics on canvas board.
Fields of Gold
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedThe glittering sun is shining once again on ripe, golden wheat fields, stretching seemingly endlessly. Again peaceful magic is happening in rural Ukraine - the way it always used to be. I have a dream... I am painting this vision on canvas board with acrylic paints, using mainly blue and yellow hues, the national colours of Ukraine
Golden Fields Forever
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedMy wish and heartfelt hope for a free, happy, and beautiful Ukraine is here expressed in a painting where I have used acrylics on canvas board, predominantly in rich yellow hues: the never ending, peaceful Ukrainian wheat fields in summer, under an enormous, endlessly blue sky - my colours are also symbolical, they represent the national colours of Ukraine.
Sunset in Wintry Ukraine
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedLike in a recurrent dream, this painting shows my never-ending love of birch trees and sunsets, perhaps especially when the countryside is covered in beautifully crisp snow. This happened in the Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains in the depths of winter - the air was so clean one could keenly smell the freshly fallen snow. As ever in my ‘Love Ukraine’ series I have now ‘eternalised’ my impressions - often years after events which had before been confined entirely to my memory. Symbolically I have chosen blue and yellow hues, framed by the whiter-than-white carpet of deep snow. Freedom.
The Winding Road to Heaven
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedYet again my mind reverts to - as so often before - a vivid memory of a full moon on a freezing winter night in Ukraine, and yet again I have ‘eternalised’ it in the way I know best, a painting. This time I am showing the full moon amongst a group of one of my favourite young birch trees. Much later, whilst meditating on my well worn yoga mat, a sudden vision came to me of what seemed to be a winding, narrow road amongst the birches - a road to heaven, I thought - far-fetched as it may sound to some, this to me became a new symbol of hope of freedom for Ukraine. My colour choice is again symbolical, hues of blue and yellow, the national colours of Ukraine.
Dance of the Winter Full Moon
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedMy mind is often cast back to the only time I happened to be on a flight across Ukraine on a freezing winter night showing a spectacular full moon outside - this happened now years ago, but the memory is still so vividly alive in my mind’s eye that I decided to put brush to canvas to recreate this wholly magical moment of a scene which was in reality probably over in seconds - to me that moment will now last a life time. The colours are symbolically mainly blue and yellow hues, the national Ukrainian colours.
Sunset amongst Birch Trees
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedThe birch is one of my favourite trees. This goes straight back to my childhood in the countryside in Denmark. This beautiful tree happens to thrive well both in Denmark and Ukraine, straight and tall it reminds me of the strong spirit of the proud Ukrainian people. My favourite Danish birch, a silver birch, was free-standing in the middle of my parents’ large, wild garden in Denmark - striving to ‘reach straight into heaven’, I used to think. The bark is spectacular, as white as driven snow, to me a symbol of hope and new freedom for Ukraine. My chosen colours, as usual blue and yellow, the national colours of Ukraine.
An Unknown Soldier Remembered
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedThe solitary cross in my painting shows my deep respect not only for one unknown soldier but for ALL soldiers, known or unknown, all over our world fighting for their country and their people, for peace, freedom, hope, and love. Without these values our world would be a lost planet. I said this decades ago, and it is still my passionate belief. Colours: the national colours of Ukraine, blue and yellow, here on purest white snow.
The Birds Return
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedThis is to me one of the most positive images I have painted so far of beautiful Ukraine. Symbolically it shows a country reborn and independent, predominantly in yellow hues, creating a feeling of sunshine, optimism, a whole new dawn: and, the birds return! The magic sunrise, the mist over the young, fresh trees…typically I am using the national colours of Ukraine, blue and yellow.
New Dawn over Kuhurluy Lake
24"16"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedThis very positive image of a to me special Ukrainian lake will always stick in my mind, so I decided to eternalise my impression in a painting. The rising sun has a both real and symbolical, spiritual effect on me. I have painted it here in warm yellow hues - the water almost embracing it so there is an impression of it all being one, gently blended together. All in the national colours of Ukraine, hues of blue and yellow. Note the strong texture of the water.
Winter Full Moon over Ukraine
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedMy inspiration for this painting goes back a long way. Once - in peacetime - I flew over Ukraine on a clear winter night. Suddenly I caught sight of this amazing full moon throwing bewitching light over the dark night sky. Far underneath me were the Carpathian Mountains covered in deep snow…this awesome sight will be in my mind forever. Apart from the bluish white snow I have used solely blue and yellow, the national Ukrainian colours.
Old Carpathian Pine Forest
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedThis work has a certain magic in my mind, the tall, slim, ‘well-seasoned’ pine trees, proudly still standing there in the Carpathian Mountains, and as I (also) have a thing about ‘heavenly bodies’ - I have chosen to show them by the shine of a frosty crescent moon on a clear and cold winter evening …an evening so cold that even the snow looked slightly blue - one could actually smell the cold…. Besides I used solely the national colours of Ukraine, blues and yellow.
Flowers and Tears
36"28"92cm71cmAcrylic on canvasSaying it with flowers again - it speaks louder than many words, I am expressing my heartfelt feelings for the woeful plight of the courageous people of Ukraine. I have chosen to paint in their country’s national colours, blue and yellow.
Sea of Sunflowers
24"16"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedThe sunflower is Ukraine’s national flower and as a Dane I share the love of this magnificent, large flower. In my childhood we had lots of them in Denmark where I grew up. I just loved the colours and - to a child - also giant size! It seemed urgent for me to paint this positive painting now. The colours I have used are the national colours of Ukraine, yellow and blue acrylic, on snow-white canvas.
Shadow of The White Stork
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedThe White Stork is considered the national bird of Ukraine, a fact which is also shared with my beloved country of birth, Denmark, where it is considered to have almost mystical qualities - small wonder as it is such an unusual, large, stunning bird. In this painting I have shown it as a symbolic shadow, lit up by a winter full moon - positive and peaceful it promises new hope..My colour choice, Ukraine’s national colours blue and yellow.
Pine Forest in Spring
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedI felt strongly inspired and full of hope seeing the first signs of early spring in a Carpathian pine forest, with the melting snow leaving the long, hard winter behind and welcoming the warming rays of an early spring sun. This is my inspiration for this work, and my chosen colours are hues of blue and yellow, the national colours of Ukraine.
Ripe Wheat Fields
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedComing round a bend I found all of a sudden and completely unexpectedly this stunning sight sprawled in front of me - it stayed in my mind ever since, and now, years later, I have reconstructed this vision on canvas, relying on my ‘mind’s eye’ as I call it. The many different shades of blues and golden yellow blended beautifully - and they also happen to be the national colours of Ukraine.
Birch Trees
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedThe birch happens to be one of my favourite trees, I just love that beautiful, virgin-white bark with bits of darker shades peeking through. This amazing view was captured during a magnificent winter sunset, and inspired me so much that I simply had to eternalise it by painting my version. I chose acrylics on white canvas using the Ukrainian national colours, blue and yellow. Those magic and poignant moments - now they will last forever.
A Tribute in Flowers
36"28"92cm71cmAcrylic on canvasFlowers can express so many emotions and I find them a great inspiration. Here I am saying it with my abstract flowers, painted like circles in the national Ukrainian colours blue and yellow, eternity-shaped…showing a never ending love for Ukraine.
Fields in Summer
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedInspired by the richness of the beautiful Ukrainian countryside, the resourcefulness of the Ukrainian people, here symbolised by their immaculate fields in summer, the golden crops. Again I am using the national colours, blue and yellow.
The Hills
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedAs I have always loved gentle curves - just have a look at my Series Female Forms - I fell in love with the gently sloping hills of Ukraine, and chose to eternalise them on canvas in a turquoise-pale blue shade shown in a glowing, peaceful sunrise. As usual, I have chosen to solely use varying shades of the national colours, blue and yellow.
Winter Sun Magic
24"18"61cm46cmAcrylic on canvas board / unframedThis shows the sheer feeling of magic I felt by suddenly catching a glimpse of a very low winter sun dancing through the snow-covered Carpathian hills….such peace, such wonder. New hope. I am painting here in acrylics in blue and yellow hues, the Ukrainian national colours.
